Revisiting the moderating effect of speaker proficiency on the relationships among intelligibility, comprehensibility, and accentedness in L2 Spanish

Abstract This report examines the potential impacts of task and proficiency on listener judgments intelligibility, comprehensibility, accentedness in L2 Spanish. study extends Huensch Nagle [ Language Learning, 71, 626–668, (2021)], who explored partial independence among global speech dimensions for samples taken from a picture narrative task. Given that type speaking used to elicit has been shown impact strength linguistic features contributing explore relationships dimensions, current followed same procedure as but employed which participants responded prompt based NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements. The were elicited instructed Spanish learners varying ( n = 42) rated by group native-speaking listeners 80) using Amazon Mechanical Turk.
